Support my challenge to leave MS behind!
Throughout the month of May I’m going to be walking 50km in aid of multiple sclerosis Ireland! A charity that is incredibly close to my heart.
For those of you that don’t know, my mum suffers from primary progressive multiple sclerosis and as a result has been left completely bed bound. MS is a neurological disease where the immune system attacks the myelin sheath that covers nerves (basically the body turns on itself). I’ve witnessed first hand what this awful disease has taken from my mum; her independence, her ability to walk, pretty much everything except her joy!
My mum is by far the bravest, strongest person I know, and has always laughed in the face of uncertainty. For someone who has every right to be angry at life, she never has been, she always sees the positive in every situation.
My mum has had to miss out on so much over the years, from family holidays to simply not being able to take her kids to the park. No mother or child should have to go through this.
One thing my mum used to love to do before this cruel disease stole that from her, is be out in nature, be it going on hikes or simply strolling around her local park, she loved it all. So while I’m walking, something that we all take for granted on the daily, I’m going to be thinking about all of those who wish to do something so basic.
Nothing quite prepares you to see the life being gradually sucked out your parent, and watching them fade away in front of you, and to make it worse there’s nothing you can do about it.
Let’s try find a cure for this horrible disease so that others don’t have to suffer in the same way that my mum has. So please support this amazing charity in any way you can, whether that be through donations or simply spreading awareness! It would mean the world to me and mum! 🫶
