Relapse / Remit / Run

(TL:DR at the end because this is long.)

6 years ago I got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. In response to that I decided to run the VHI Mini Marathon. I wanted to show I had nothing to prove other than to myself, that everything would be fine, that I had nothing to hide, and that MS would never hold me back.

I've got on with my life well enough, but chronic conditions and disabilities are what they are, and it has been a bit of rollercoaster over the last few years with new meds, new symptoms, and residual issues that I live with. Late last year my MS relapsed with optic neuritis, which I got treatment for in early January. It has been one of the more challenging relapses I've had for lots of different reasons both mentally and physically.

It's time to get back, and in my motivation to drop kick myself into remission, I am doing the mini-marathon again on June 4th...but since I'm already running to train for it, I am taking part in The May 50K to raise valuable funds for over 9,000 people living with MS in Ireland. Your money goes towards support services, diagnosis information sessions, helping families, and also funds therapy and respite centres run by the MS Society of Ireland at a regional, local, and national level.

Getting back into running has been empowering, and motivating. It makes me feel able, and strong. The 10K marathon is one thing, but the journey to get there is quite another, and that is what is most important to me. I say I'm raising money for MS Society of Ireland, but that's just a plus.

I'm doing this for me.

From run to run I never know how my body will respond. Yes, I'm a little out of shape, but MS has its own agenda that I need to manage. But f**k it: I'm feeling the fear and doing it anyway, I am running towards the danger. I am reminding myself of what I can do. I'll take whatever come next. Thank you all so much for your support. It means so very much. x

See you at the finish line.

TL:DR: I am raising money for MS Ireland by taking part in The May 50K, (in the lead up to my run in the VHI Mini Marathon on June 4th). I've worked hard to overcome some MS difficulties very recently so am grateful for any and all support! Your money goes towards support over 9,000 people living with MS in Ireland and will change lives!  x
